2 - Family Home Evening

I'm Happiest When...

All of us have a special someone. And that special someone make us to be happy. Like your family, friends, crush, boyfriend, girlfriend etc.and that person not only makes us to be happy but also inspires us to do all the things. But for me, the most important of all is my family because my family is the best gift of God.

Before family life seemed to kick into a hyper-drive, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints counseled families to dedicate a one evening per week for family time in a program known as family home evening. At that time, families are encouraged to slow down and spend time together once a week, strengthening relationships, sharing common beliefs, and just having fun.

These family home evening ideas will help your family learn more about your extended family and start building bonds with parents, grandparents, and ancestors.

SPIRITUAL

Discuss your views on the Ten Commandments. Share your beliefs about basic Christian principles such as faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, prayer, and scripture study. Allow children to share what they believe as well.  Discuss and establish standards for behavior for the members of your family. The "For the Strength of Youth" booklet offers some great suggestions and guidelines not only for teenagers, but also for family members of all ages. These include guidelines in areas such as media use, friendships, dating, and language. Watch and talk about the Life of Jesus Christ BibleRead and discuss a favorite scripture story.

PRACTICAL

Hold a family council. Here you can discuss everyday detail like the current week’s calendar of events or discuss long-term goals like planning a family vacation. Learn and practice life skills together as a family. Cooking, scrubbing a toilet, folding laundry, and changing a tire, these are all skills that can be practiced during a family night. Talk about family finances. Here is a good resource to help your family understand sound principles about financial security. Plant and care for a garden. As you do, your familya slso will learn about hard work, patience, healthy eating habits, how fast they will react upon emergency, togetherness, and the joys of reaping what you sow. Learn a new hobby together as a family.

SOCIAL

Bake cookies and take them to your friends. Have a family game night. Invite another family to join you for your family night and enjoy dessert together. Serve someone as a family. Local food banks and shelters often appreciate volunteer service.

All of this is true, that's why I'm very happy to say that family home evening is the occassion makes me so happy. I hope you too, you should do this at your home, of course together with your family. And your family will be blessed.

“Give highest priority to family prayer, family home evening, gospel study and instruction, and wholesome family activities. However worthy and appropriate other demands or activities may be, they must not be permitted to displace the divinely-appointed duties that only parents and families can adequately perform.” Gordon B. Hinckley, Thomas S. Monson, and James E. Faust.
